HARKEN, LOUISIANA • MARCH 2027
THE FISH DIE FIRST.
THE BLACK LINE MOVES UPSTREAM.
THE HORSE FOLLOWS THE POISONED WATER.
Fourteen-year-old Roan Kade has spent five months testing the bayou below Harken Petrochem. The numbers keep worsening. Fish float belly-up, grass turns black, and something enormous moves beneath the surface against the current.
Local families call it the Horse: a skinless shape that follows contaminated water and grows bolder after every plant release. Cleaner water stops it—but the plant keeps moving the boundary.
Roan's evidence could trigger an investigation. It could also cost his father the job and insurance keeping their family afloat. To save the bayou, Roan must build a record no company can erase without turning the people he loves into data.
The water is bad today. The record exists today.
