EVERYONE MADE ROOM.
NO ONE ASKED WHO INVITED HER.
THEN HER DANCERS STOPPED WANTING ANYTHING.
Fourteen-year-old Sara Lowe is safest at the edge of a crowded room, where she can watch without being watched. At Whitfield House, she sees what everyone else misses: a girl in green appears in the middle of the dance floor without using the only door.
After the stranger touches Sara's friends, they stop eating, talking, and wanting the lives they had. Sara's iron ring can break one contact, but it cannot protect an entire room. Old campus rules offer a different defense: host the threshold, back every refusal, and bring up the lights.
But the girl knows exactly what Sara wants—to stop standing at the edge and be chosen. To save her friends, Sara must face her in the center of the room and prove that wanting to belong is not permission to be taken.
Belonging should never cost the right to refuse.
