Case overview

PRESCOTT ACADEMY, CONNECTICUT • THE THEATER

TATE IS ALONE ONSTAGE.

THE LAUGHTER COMES FROM G14.

Tate Oduya, thirteen, is rehearsing a Hamlet monologue alone at Prescott Academy when a laugh comes from an empty seat. The next day, a small red coat appears in the costume room.

The theater’s technical director has seen other students break on this stage. Behind the pressure to give a perfect performance waits a much older audience.

The most dangerous audience may be the one you cannot see.
