THE HOUSE REMEMBERS HER HEIGHT.
THE MINE KEEPS THE OLD NAMES.
HER MOTHER CAN NO LONGER SEE HER.
Twelve-year-old Shea Brennan's mother remembers her school trip, her favorite cereal, and the shoes beneath the bench. She remembers everything about Shea—except the girl standing in front of her.
As Colleen's gaze slips away, Shea finds nine families with the same history, a sealed coal mine breathing the smell of peat, and old household records hidden beneath fresh paint. The stories call it a changeling. But no one has replaced Shea.
To make her mother see her again, Shea must uncover what Garnet stopped maintaining—and resist the pressure to erase every part of herself her mother does not recognize.
Recognition is not something a child should have to earn.
