THE ESTATE IS BEING SORTED.
THE EMPTY CHAIR KEEPS MOVING.
Twelve-year-old Katya Volkov-Marsh returns to her family’s old Pennsylvania row house after her grandfather’s death. Her mother sorts the estate into keep, donate, and discard. The bread on the counter has hardened to stone.
Next door, Danya has spent two years recording the house’s rules in a composition book. As the family decides what to carry away, an older presence makes itself known in the rooms they are preparing to leave.
Leaving a house is not always the same as leaving it empty.
